    Owner Comments:
This Thunderbird left the Wixom Michigan factory on October 1st, 1963 and was delivered to Phoenix Arizona, a little over one month before President Kennedy was assassinated. Story has it that the Tonneau covers had already been designed for 1964 models, and a limited number were in inventory ready for the 1964 Production year, when Ford made the decision to terminate the Roadster production because of lacking 1963 Roadster sales. In order to return value from the covers that had been produced, Ford offered them as a Sports Roadster Accessory in 1964. The Tonneau covers and Kelsey Hayes wheels that had made such a mark for the 1962 and 1963 Thunderbird Roadsters were to be continued into early 1964 with the later 1964 body design. That year fewer than 50 production cars took on the look of the Roadster with Tonneau cover and wire wheels and they did not carry the Official Roadster designation on the Thunderbird build sheets and are not considered Real Thunderbird Roadsters. The first picture (below) of the curved rear seat was the Ralph Nader national focus point for safety in 1964. Mr. Nader claimed that too many people (Particularly Women) rode side saddle in the rear seat which could cause a increased risk to the passengers in the case of a crash. Ford continued to make the curved rear seat for the 1964, 65 and 66 model Thunderbird. The 1964 Thunderbird was the first year of the what is referred to as the Flair Bird.
