    1940 General Motors La Salle Coupe Model: 40 -5027 Factory assigned Number: 2328642 - Genuine Cowhide Leather Interior General Motors Factory Crate “502” Blue Printed, Balanced CCD 4-Barrel Holley 850 with dual feed & center squirters Holley Electronic fuel pump 4-Speed Automatic Transmission Independent Front Suspension with springs over shocks. 456 Positraction - Air Conditioning Don Lee, Cadillac's California distributor, was operating a superb custom body shop in connection with his Los Angeles facility. Enter Harley Earl working at Don Lee’s Beverly Hills Dealership. Earl made no bones about his inspiration for the new LaSalle Test driven by "Big Bill" Rader. Indianapolis 500 -- and the LaSalle ran twice as far! It was undoubtedly the handsomest American car of its day. LaSalle was born almost simultaneously with the death of Henry Ford's history-making Model T. DuPont Chemical Company's fast-drying, polychromatic duco finishes in 1924 paved the way for a full palette of sparkling colors, and LaSalle was one of the first cars to take full advantage of them. With its dashing looks, fine performance, and adroit pricing, LaSalle was enthusiastically received, and it was largely because of this that Sloan hired Harley Earl full-time. 1939 LaSalle was treated to a brand-new body shell. 1939 LaSalle beat the Packard One-Twenty Sales for the first time., La Salle division saved the best for last, and few would have guessed from the 1940 models that LaSalle was near the end of its road. Then in the summer of 1940, production halted abruptly and it was all over. 1940 La Salle produced 425 The story on this specific vehicle number 2328642: 4-29-40 Delivered by Cadillac Motors to Don Lee Inc.
