In 1979 the XR-7 (sport-luxury package) included power disc brakes and power steering, 15-inch wheels, rear stabilizer bar, walnut woodtone instrument panel, bucket seats "XR-7" trunk key-hole door, "COUGAR" deck lid script, large hood ornament , and sport-styled roofline with back-half vinyl and rear opera side windows and louvers. This XR-7s came with the Rally Sport Tach and Gauge package (only 25% of all Cougars came with this option). This came with the Decor Option and the Midnight/Chamois Decor Option. This was Mercury's take on the special designer decor options used in the Lincoln Mark V. This model came with the famous 302 V8 engine and automatic transmission. The Cougar XR-7 would set an all-time sales record this year. This has to be one of the newest 1979 XR/7's in existence! With only 45,000 miles she still retains its original paint, vinyl top and interior... almost flawless!
