1956 CHRYSLER IMPERIAL SOUTH HAMPTON. * Color: Raven Black; Interior: Gray embossed leather and vinyl. * Engine: Hemi 354ci, 290 hp * Accessories: Airtemp Air Conditioning with Solex tinted Glass, Power Steering, Torqueflite 3 speed automatic transmission, Power Brakes, Power windows, 4-way Power seat, Electro Touch signal seeking radio with foot control. * Specifications: Wheelbase 133 inches, Over-all length 229.6 inches. * History: The car was maticulasly maintained by two previous owners and lived in Southern Tennessee and North Mississippi all its life. It is registered with the Imperial Club International. It was driven until being loaned to a museum in 2009. It was painted sometime around that time. I purchased the car running and driving in 2012 and transported it to Palm Springs. It has been stored , driven and gone through completely. It has had new tires and wheels and new rubber weather stripping installed. The radiator was removed, as is customary in the desert, and recored with an additional row. All fluids were changed (oil, brake and transmission) and brakes were serviced and adjusted. Air Conditioning system was evacuated vacuum tested and serviced with new gas. The water pump was replaced along with the radiator and the engine received a major tuneup during the last few months. This car is very elegant and very good driver. The 1955 and 1956 Imperials were treated by Chrysler as a separate model devision to compete with the Lincoln Mk2 and Cadillac Eldorado Brougham as a high end luxury model. They were treated as a cost plus exercise and practically hand built for the two years. Selling for 1956 money in the High $5,600.00 range. They are considered by many to be of superior engineering and contained many cutting edge innovations for the era such as HiWay Hi Fi record player, and Hemi, high compression, Power.
