Debuting in 1978, the 928 was Porsche's next-generation successor to the iconic but aging 91l platform, as well as its answer to increasingly stringent auto emissions standards in the US. In fact, Porsche management in Stuttgart fully intended the 928 to carry the Porsche flag well into the 1980s and beyond. Unlike the air-cooled, rear-engine 9l1, this 928 was built as a modern GT touring car with a powerful, water-cooled 4.5-liter V8 sitting up front. Sometimes referred to as the "German Corvette," the 928 was Porsche's first-ever production V8 and combined the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement. comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan. This 1982 model is fitted with a 5-speed dogleg manual transmission, Competition package (front and rear air foils), automatic temperature- controlled air conditioning, power sunroof, a pivoting driver's instrument pod, and a Blaupunkt Dearborn AM/FM stereo cassette deck. Acquired by the present owner in 2018, it has been locally driven and regularly maintained by OMAG Automotive in Palm Springs and 928 guru Greg Brown at Precision Motorwerks in Orange, California. Slightly more than 61,000 examples were manufactured during the 928's eighteen-year production run from 1978 to 1995. Of those, only 15.000 were sold in the US. Approximately 20% had manual transmissions.
