Cars from the ’50s and ’60s, convertibles dominate the top-10 list at Palm Springs

Palm Springs Exotic Car Auctions, aka McCormick’s, posted a 65 percent sell-through and $6.37 million in sales at its 64th semi-annual collector car auction last week.

“Sales have rebounded from a downtrend a few years ago,” Jason McCormick, auction manager, said in a news release, adding that cars from the 1950s and ‘60s are proving to remain in high demand.

The eight highest prices paid at the sale were all for cars from the ‘50s or ’60s, topped by a 1957 Porsche 356A cabriolet that sold for $180,600. Chevrolets and Fords from the ’50s and ’60s rounded out the top-8.

Eight of the top-9 cars were roadsters or convertibles.

McCormick’s auction No. 62 a year ago posted $5.8 million in sales with 304 cars going to new owners. The fall 2017 sale (No. 63) did $6.12 million with 322 vehicles hammered sold.

McCormick offered 530 vehicles for sale at the auction.
